Avalon AI and Matahari Department Store Launch Aura Intelligence: Innovative Contribution from ITS Students in the Fashion Industry

Surabaya, March 6, 2025 —
Avalon AI, a tech startup that works with artificial intelligence, launched its product Aura Intelligence at Matahari Department Store in Tunjungan Plaza 3, Surabaya on February 28, 2025. The opening event drew school experts, Matahari leaders, and many shoppers who came to see fresh tech in fashion.

Kevin Putra Santoso, President Director of Avalon AI and a student from the Information Technology Department at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), spoke at the event. He said, “We are happy to start Aura Intelligence here. This meeting also begins our work with Matahari in Tunjungan Plaza. Our work in AI research helps support lifestyle and creative industry work.”

What is Aura Intelligence?

Aura Intelligence is a system built with AI. It helps customers pick clothes that suit their size and preferred color without trying them on. The system gives a simple fix for those who want to save time while shopping.

A main part of Aura Intelligence is its tool that tells the right clothing size from a deep-learning model. Kevin said that no one has done this in Indonesia before. With this tool, buyers can know their size without the need for costly equipment. He said, "Normally, such work needs expensive devices. We built our deep-learning model to replace them, making the process simpler and more affordable."

Aura Intelligence also has a tool that uses personal color checks to suggest garments. Kevin said that this idea is growing in talk and news. "Normally, getting personal color checks means visiting a specialist and spending much. We want this check to be easier and cheaper for buyers." The system also holds a chatbot that acts as a style guide to help customers choose clothes.

The Journey to Innovation

Avalon AI worked hard on Aura Intelligence. Kevin said that while AI work abroad moves fast, Avalon AI works to bring such work to Indonesia with hopes of meeting rates abroad. The idea for Aura Intelligence began in 2023 in what they called Project Merlin. After many talks and sketches, Matahari joined in early this year. Work on Aura Intelligence began on February 1. Kevin spoke on the hard work behind Aura Intelligence. "The idea has existed since 2023, but work on it only started this year. One hard part was making the deep-learning tool for size checking without expensive gear."

Yani, Store Manager of Matahari Tunjungan Plaza, noted that the work started because of long waits at fitting rooms. "I looked for a way that lets customers wear clothes without long waits. When I met Kevin and his team, we shared the same view and soon worked together on Aura Intelligence," she said.

Changing the Shopping Experience

Yani said that adding AI to fashion will make shopping better. "After the pandemic, online work in fashion has grown much. We expect that tech like Aura Intelligence will improve shopping for Matahari customers," she said.

Hari Ginardi, Head of the Information Technology Department at ITS, shared his pride for his students. "Many new AI tools today are just chatbots or language models. Avalon AI brought a tool that people can use in real life. This shows our students can make new ideas that work well," he said.

People at the event gave good feedback for the tech. Mawar, a resident of Surabaya, said, "It makes shopping much easier. The system is clear and helps save time. You scan with your camera and do not try on clothes." Another guest, Wisnu, said that the method helps many know their correct size.

Future Developments

Avalon AI will keep working on Aura Intelligence. They plan to mix it with online stores and add functions like virtual try-ons. Kevin said, "We hope Aura Intelligence will work in all Matahari stores and for buyers at home."

The launch of Aura Intelligence by Avalon AI shows the power of young students to make smart ideas that change markets. Kevin and his team have proved that creativity, clear research, and a will to work with others can create tech that affects lives. Their work gives hope for more students to work in tech, build new ideas, and lead real change in many fields.
