Walmart Designers Embrace AI Technology with New Trend-to-Product System
April 14, 2025 – Innovation in Textiles, USA
Walmart uses a new AI system called Trend-to-Product. The system changes how the team works by turning trends into products in less time. Designers can move from an idea to a finished item much faster than before.
Before this system, teams took about six months to finish a collection. They would study trends, gather ideas, and build mood boards. They looked at runways, social feeds, and trend reports. This work took care and time.
Now, Trend-to-Product scans a large amount of global data. It picks up hints from online sources and experts. It builds mood boards with colors, textures, and ideas in minutes instead of weeks.
Team members review the AI results to make them clear. Jen Jackson Brown, a leader at Walmart, says the system lets the team work more on making items they love. The group now joins idea work with creating on-trend items for many seasons and events.
After that, the team makes detailed fashion tech packs. These packs give suppliers the exact steps to make each item. The whole process—from idea to tech pack—takes about one hour. New items reach Walmart stores and online in six to eight weeks.
Early tests of the system show good results. AI makes the work faster. The new way fits Walmart’s goal of giving customers good products at fair prices.
As fashion trends change, Walmart uses AI to update how designs work. The company now moves in step with what buyers need.
